All students are welcome as we provide quality coaching for players of all levels. During the 2012-13 season, Truro and Penwith College Netball Academy catered for 30 students who played in one of three College squads. All the players in the 1st and 2nd team squads play for local clubs, many of them in regional leagues. Players in the 3rd team tend to play more for the social side of the game and are not always connected to local clubs. However we are proud that many players have progressed from 3rd team status to 1st team over the two year programme.

The Academy provides fixtures where possible for three squads with local sides, schools competitions and in the British Colleges Leagues and tournaments. The 1st team Squad play in a BCS South Superleague competition, the 2nd team play in British Colleges SW 1 League and the 3rd team play in British Colleges SW 2 League.

Players have the opportunity of netball related activities including work on skills, tactics, and fitness, match play, and match analysis. All students have the opportunity to develop their own personal performance. There is a real club feeling to the academy with a friendly atmosphere where everyone, regardless of experience or ability, is valued. Students are also encouraged to be involved in coaching and umpiring opportunities.

Training for the Academy starts during the summer holidays. Players attend one day a week giving them an opportunity to develop their skills, fitness and match play and also helping them to make new friends before the College year starts in September.

The Academy is strongly linked to Cornwall Netball’s Development programme. Cornwall’s Talent and Performance centre is based at the College and many of the players have progressed into the College Netball Academy. The College has been recognised by Netball South West (NSW) for the work it does to promote netball. It has been designated a NSW Talent and Performance Status, one of only three institutions in the region to receive this accolade.
