Course Overview:
The hospitality and catering industry is one of the biggest in the country, spanning restaurants, hotels, cafes, pubs and contract caterers, schools, colleges, hospitals and large businesses. The Front of House Reception Apprenticeships will develop your skills to ensure you can deliver a great customer experience for guests arriving at your accommodation.
Course Content:
This Apprenticeship includes the following elements:
- NVQ Diploma in Front of House Reception level 2
- Level 2 Award in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Front Office)
- Level 1 Functional Skill in Mathematics
- Level 1 Functional Skill in English
- Employer Rights and Responsibilities (Work-book)
The Front of House Reception Apprenticeship will develop your skills in a number of areas including; dealing with bookings, preparing customer accounts, resolving problems, the arrival of customers, customer service excellence, departures, processing payments, providing tourist information and many others. You will also develop skills in analysing numerical information and communication relevant to your job role plus develop an understanding of employer rights and responsibilities.

Who is the Course For?
This course is ideal for those who work on reception or front of house within a hospitality role.
Delivery Method: Apprenticeships are achieved through a blended learning approach, incorporating taught sessions, workplace learning and assessments and online learning. One-to-one support, tuition and advice are available from our team of experienced and qualified tutors, assessors and advisers.
Time Commitment: A minimum of 19 taught sessions (days) over 52 weeks, a one day induction, and taught sessions for functional skills (if applicable). Plus regular workplace visits plus online learning and self directed study.
Assessment: This Apprenticeship is achieved by attending taught sessions, completing a work-based portfolio and doing timed and work-based assessments.
Progression through Truro and Penwith College:
- Hospitality Supervision and Leadership L3 Advanced Apprenticeship
Costs
The majority of the training costs delivered by the College for Apprenticeships is funded. There is a required employer contribution towards this as follows:
- Apprentices aged 16 – 18 = Free
- Apprentices aged 19+ = £250.00 Employer Contribution or £500 for large employers
Employers must pay Apprentices a wage (minimum of £2.65 per hour). Apprenticeships at Truro and Penwith College are only available to businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
