Course Information

This is a 1 year course following the Edexcel Linear (A) 1MA0 specification.

Grade range is A*-D.

Entry requirement is grade C at GCSE Maths (Foundation or Higher Tier), other qualifications will be advised of an alternative maths qualification which may lead to GCSE Maths upon successful completion.

The course has four main topic areas following the National Attainment Targets:

• Using and Applying Maths
• Number and Algebra
• Space, Shape and Measure
• Handling Data

During classes you will learn effective use of the calculator. There are regular assignments and problem-solving tasks to help you alongside the formal lectures.

There are two 1hour 30minute exams in June, one calculator and one non-calculator. There is no coursework.

• Scientific calculator (£6-£15)
• Textbook (advised in first lesson) (£10-£20)

Progression

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to further education or higher education in some subjects. The Higher Tier course may allow progression onto the AS Level Maths course.
