Spanish

The aim is to achieve a high level of fluency in the written and spoken language through the study of topics such as Media, Environment, Immigration, Terrorism plus study of a region and film.  It is recommended that students have achieved AS level Spanish or have significant experience of living in a Spanish speaking country.

Anthropology

Explore culture and human societies to seek an understanding of humankind in all its diversity, from the evolution of archaic homosapiens to modern globalised communities. Recognise preconceptions and assumptions from our own social and cultural environments and develop an awareness of relationships between local, regional and global process and issues. Includes a fieldwork module. AS and A2 can be completed in one year.

Photography

For those who want to bring out their creative side with a camera.  This is being offered because of the number of adults who have shown an interest during our open days when their own children have been looking at the subject for their A Level courses. The course not only focuses on technical skills but also has an emphasis on the contextual understanding of photography and the artists producing work both historical and contemporary.  Covers traditional and digital Photography.  This course requires that you already have a WJEC accredited A/S qualification.

Medieval / Early Modern History

An enjoyable course focusing on Feudalism to the Modern Nation State. We begin with gaining an understanding of England during the age of Alfred the Great and continue on to consider the changes made to the realm under the Norman Kings. We will then study the reign of Henry VIII and his chief ministers in preparation for the A2 examination unit focusing on the legacy of his period on the reigns of his children, Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I. The A2 course also includes one unit completed through coursework examining Crusading Europe from 1095-1204. AS and A2 can be completed in one year.

Human Biology

A modular AS Level Human Biology from OCR. It comprises of two taught units and an investigation. This is an interesting and applied course which includes some current medical issues. This challenging course will be taught from scratch.  Prior knowledge, whilst useful, is not necessary.

Chemistry

A traditional and popular AS course involving a mixture of theory and practical work. Starts at a basic level of understanding and progresses through to applications and the importance of industrial processes and green chemistry. The course consists of two modules. The practical element is assessed by coursework carried out during the lessons.
