What are infill courses?
Infill courses can be studied in many subjects at Higher Education level. Each module consists of approximately 30 hours. Students would attend existing timetabled lectures, with our full time students (not separate classes). The module will have the same assessment requirements e.g. coursework, exam or both, and should have the same amount of teaching hours.
They are all part of existing full degrees (please see our list of foundation degrees to see what we have to offer). You may study up to two modules at 20 credits each (up to 40 credits) in any year from almost any degree programme.
What qualification will I get out of it at the end?
After successfully completing the assessments you will receive a certificate of attendance as well as the module credits by Plymouth University. It is not possible to build a degree out of infill Short Courses, but it may be possible that credits gained can be used towards an appropriate foundation or honours degree or a Certificate of Professional Development. This could be an opportunity to try out an area of study before you commit yourself to a longer course, or top up your knowledge and skills between longer courses.
If you see a course that interests you but it isn’t delivered in the way you want, don’t give up – talk to us about it. You might be surprised at what we can do!
You only pay for what you do. Each 20 credit module costs £400
Funding Available – If you are employed within a private sector business and do not already have a similar qualification at this level it is likely that due to current funding you will only have to pay half price.
Eligibility for entry to the above would be at the discretion of the Programme Leader, some of our modules are subject specific, for example Action Photography, and therefore students need to have previous experience to be able to study the course.
Other Opportunities
CPPD – Certificate of Professional and Personal Development
Students can gain 240 credits over time, equivalent to the first two years of a degree. They have to do three modules to gain the 1st Certificate, six modules for a Certificate in Higher Education and twelve modules for a Dip HE Certificate. A third of the modules are some aspect of Study Skills within the context of their career choice e.g. presentations. These modules can be studied at any college in Cornwall and modules can be a combination of those offered by different colleges.
CPD – Continuing Professional Development award
Any three modules can be chosen from across the range of degrees offered by Truro and Penwith College. These can be mixed but would usually be from related programmes. This is a professionally focused scheme developed to appeal to business/employer needs. Students can take three years to gain 60 credits.
