This Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship allows learners to achieve a Level 2 qualification while gaining valuable experience as a therapist. Upon completion, you will be able to progress on to an advanced Level 3 qualification.

On completion, you will be able to perform beauty therapy treatments and implement safe working practices that meet legal, industry and organisational requirements. You will be able to provide advice and recommendations on beauty therapy treatments, appointments and service timings. You will also be able to facilitate the client journey, from appointments through to completion of the services to handling payments while portraying the professionalism and values expected by the beauty therapy industry.

What Will I Learn?

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of all relevant subject areas alongside developing interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

This 18 month qualification is mainly a practical course, using a variety of teaching methods including discussions, demonstrations and presentations. You will work on your own, in pairs and in small groups practicing techniques within a realistic working environment in well equipped, purpose-built salons.

Career opportunities: Beauty salons or spas, retail concession, or self-employed.

Progression options: Level 3 Diploma in Nail Services, Makeup Artistry, or Beauty Therapy General, or the Level 3 Wellbeing and holistic Therapist Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You will need Grade 2 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths.

Assessment Arrangements

Your achievement in this qualification is dependent upon excellent attendance, punctuality and effort. You will study in a friendly atmosphere, using a variety of assessment methods.

Most of the assessments are completed through practical observations of skills and techniques and this will be carried out throughout all your units, as you continuously strive to work towards a competent level within your treatments.

You will be assessed regularly on written theory work that may be conducted within the class or as a homework activity and feedback will be continuously provided on your progress. You also will be assessed regularly on treatment terminology.

Your performance will be reviewed during 1:1 sessions with your training advisor, who will visit you both in the workplace and in College.

Mock examinations will also be undertaken prior to your End Point Assessment exam.


You will be assessed throughout your qualification to gain the range needed to be entered for your End Point Assessment (EPA). During this practical exam you will be assessed and graded on a variety of treatments chosen by the awarding body (VTCT). You will be graded on this exam from pass to distinction. Apprentices must have achieved the Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Professionals and achieved the required level 1 qualification (or equivalent) in English and Maths and taken the Level 2 English and Maths test before being placed forward for the EPA.

EPA Assessment Methods:

  • Externally set and marked, practical assessment through observation
  • Externally set and marked online knowledge examinations

Information & Support

We encourage you to practice your treatments in the workplace where possible and to utilise the online resources provided by the College for guidance. In addition, we expect you to conduct your own research during set home study activities in relation to completion of assignments. You will be provided with a Truro College salon uniform and specific equipment. Full advice will be given on these before the start of your course.

Additional Information

You will be required to source your own full-time employment for an Apprenticeship. This can be done by looking on job search sites or visiting salons and spas to ask for employment opportunities.
