WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Lessons take place in specialist IT rooms with networked PCs. Your lecturers will be specialists in their field who will teach you through demonstrations and lectures. They will also support you to undertake a variety of practical tasks. You will have access to hardware and networking laboratory facilities for the practical parts of the course.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?

This course forms an excellent skills base for employment in the IT industry as a technician or developer.

The majority of students continue onto computing and IT-related degree courses at university, such as Business Information and Technology, Digital Technology, Computer Games, Technology, Creative Technology, Information Technology Management for Business, Computing Forensics, Computer Networks and Security.

ASSESSMENT ARRANGEMENTS

The course assessment is mainly through assignments. Some of which will be set by your lecturers and others will be set and marked by the exam board. You will normally have three or four assignments to complete for each unit. All units will be taught for a minimum of 60 hours but they are not all of the same length. Some of the more challenging units will have 90 hours and some will have 120 hours. The grades for all units contribute towards your overall grade that is awarded at the end of your two-year course.

Students will take the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma qualification in the first year. You will be required to successfully complete the first year to progress to the full Level 3 National Extended Diploma, which is the equivalent to three A Levels.

INFORMATION & SUPPORT

You will be invited to join our Computing Academy where you will work with other students to complete a variety of programming and hardware projects. Our “Near Space Mission” is particularly popular, where you will take part in launching a weather balloon loaded with a variety of sensors and cameras. Our photographs taken at 80,000 feet are simply stunning.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to include English Language or Literature and/or Maths. A Merit on a Level 2 Diploma in an appropriate subject can also be considered (plus English and/or Maths).
