Truro and Penwith College has excellent industry-standard working environments where students will learn and develop practical skills as well as the latest professional tools and equipment to make study as close to a real working environment as possible. The course is designed to prepare students to be ‘work ready’, creating a ‘real world’ plastering experience delivered by passionate lecturers with many years’ experience in the trade. You will learn about the principles of constructing buildings and the types of information used in building design and construction, as well as health, safety, and environmental issues faced on construction sites and how to communicate with others on the job, including supervisory skills such as planning, organising, and pricing work.
To bolster progression the College works with local employers who contribute to the delivery of this training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Students will study units such as: Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication, Internal Plastering, Drylining, Fixing Sheet Materials, Applying Setting Coats and Fibrous Plastering. Students will learn how to use different types of plaster, render, plaster board and all traditional techniques needed to start a career in the trade.
The College has all the professional tools and equipment to develop skills in sand and lime rendering, scratch coats and float coats, and the use of lightweight plaster and setting coats, as well as plaster boarding, fibrous moulding and much more.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
A Plastering Diploma can open doors to many other career routes within the construction profession. Options to study further would include progression to a higher-level qualification such as a Level 3 Diploma in Plastering, an Apprenticeship or T Level. This qualification prepares you with the knowledge and practical skills required to become a skilled plasterer.
You will be able to complete specialist, complex tasks, either on a construction site, commercial or domestic premises. You may also become self-employed working as a sub-contractor and this is a popular route within the industry.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students need to have achieved a GCSE Grade 2 in English & Maths and must have a keen interest in Construction and a good work ethic.
Students must be able to work alone, as part of a team and demonstrate commitment to the course.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The College provides all of the tools and materials for the course, however students will be responsible for their own PPE and will be required to come equipped with a pair of steel toe capped boots and a pair of safety glasses.
