This is an innovative course offered at Entry Level 3/Level 1 that provides students with the opportunity to experience a range of learning experiences. They will also explore a range of vocational sectors, which will enable each student to better decide their next steps.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE

This course is aimed at post 16 students with moderate learning difficulties, who have not yet decided on a career, or those who need more qualifications to gain entry onto other courses. It provides an opportunity to gain essential skills and experiences that will aid progression onto further education or work.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Students will have the opportunity to study are range of subjects that may include:

ICT, Photography, Cooking (Life Skills), Horticulture, Sport, Motivational Mindset, Art and Design, Drama, Volunteering, Gym & Fitness, Business Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Social and Personal Skills, Creating a Product, Cultural Studies and Skills for Work.

Students will also have the opportunity to study and gain accreditation in Maths and English at an appropriate level. There will be the opportunity for a regular weekly work placement.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?

The Skilled for Life course prepares learners and equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress into the world of work. Career support is at hand to engage learners and help them to plan for their chosen future.

Students will progress, gaining accredited qualifications in a range of subjects. They will be able to explore vocational courses within the college and undertake valuable work placement experience.

Assessment Arrangements

The Skilled for Life course uses a credit-based model; learners are registered for a specific number of credits based on their individual learning needs.
