Higher level teaching assistant status is awarded to support staff who meet the national HLTA standards. An HLTA does all the things that regular teaching assistants do but the biggest difference is the increased level of responsibility, including whole class teaching in the short-term absence of the teacher. This course requires two days in the classroom, followed by in school tasks and a portfolio to complete which will underpin a professional discussion.

Course structure:
- 2 days attendance at college
- Submission of a portfolio of evidence
- One visit in the workplace by a qualified assessor
Entry requirements:
- Currently employed as a Teaching Assistant in a school
- Recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in English and Maths (physical proof will be required)
- A declaration from the candidate agreeing they currently meet or are working towards HLTA standards
- A signed declaration from your Headteacher in which they agree to support you through the programme
