The Level 4 units lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to construction and different modern methods of construction functions. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. Students will gain a wide range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of Level 4, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of construction.

What Will I Learn?
Through studying the HNC in Modern Methods of Construction you will gain practical experience with industry-standard software such as Autodesk’s AutoCAD, REVIT & 3DS Max. You will also gain a greater understanding for modern methods used within construction.
The HNC in Modern Methods of Construction Units develop knowledge and skills in areas such as Project Management, Construction Technology and Off-Site Construction, as well as gaining greater understand in Building Information Modelling and the Design Process. As one of the main drivers within the construction industry – Sustainability is a key theme throughout each unit.
Where Will It Take Me?
Achievement of the HNC prepares you for further progression within the construction industry, higher education qualifications such as the HND in Construction Management, as well as the option to enter the industry to start your working career in construction. Graduates often enter roles such as site engineers, construction managers, assistant site managers, assistant project managers, design managers and CAD/BIM technicians to name a few.

For entry to this programme, you will require a GCSE Grade 4 in Maths, English, Science, a Level 3 vocational equivalent (diploma/extended diploma) or a T Level in Construction or equivalent industry experience in a relevant field. You must have a keen interest in construction and a good work ethic. You must be able to work alone and as part of a team and to demonstrate commitment to the course.
