The course teaches the basics required to enable students to start beekeeping. It is a theory course as students would be unable to appreciate practical aspects of beekeeping until they have this theory.
Topics covered include:
equipment needed to keep bees
the life-cycle of the honeybee
the importance of bees to the farming economy and ecology in general
the collection, processing and bottling of honey
bee diseases
choosing a hive
comparing different hive types and understanding the inner workings of the hive
locating a hive
swarm control and prevention

Please note the Saturday class is run on non-consecutive Saturdays:
Autumn Term 2022/23 - 24/09/22, 15/10,22, 12/11/22 and 26/11/22.
Spring Term 2022/23 - 28/01/23, 04/02/23, 25/02/23 and 11/03/23.
