The course teaches the basics required to enable students to start beekeeping. It is a theory course as students would be unable to appreciate practical aspects of beekeeping until they have this theory.
Topics covered include:
- Equipment needed to keep bees
- The life-cycle of the honeybee
- The importance of bees to the farming economy and ecology in general
- The collection, processing and bottling of honey
- Bee diseases
- Choosing a hive
- Comparing different hive types and understanding the inner workings of the hive
- Locating a hive
- Swarm control and prevention

Please note the Saturday class is run on non-consecutive Saturdays:
Autumn Term 2023 - 30/09/23, 14/10/23, 11/11/23 and 25/11/23.
