Hockey Academy

The Hockey Academy welcomes players of all levels, from beginners to national competitors. Whatever your ability, we’ll hone your skills and raise your standard of play.

What can I expect?

There are normally about 30 players in our male and female hockey teams, playing a number of festival format games throughout the season.

The majority of our men’s and women’s 1st elevens play club hockey and we recommend players who want to play at 1st team level to be playing or to join local clubs, although there have been some exceptions to this. Some members play for various South Premier teams in the county, such as Truro (men’s), Newquay and Falmouth (women’s), and for the lower local leagues. Players will engage in up to three hours per week of hockey related activities, which will include theory classes, coaching, fitness sessions, skills work and post-match analysis. Competitive matches usually take place on Wednesday afternoons. Coaching and umpiring courses may also be offered throughout the year.

Matches and leagues

We also organise some intra college leagues – both indoor and outdoor – depending on the time of year. The College plays in the Association of Colleges Sport, South West League and national cups, travelling as far as Bridgwater College and Gower College (Swansea).

Friendlies are played against a range of local and regional sixth forms and colleges. U18 outdoor and indoor county tournaments are also entered with the possibility of qualifying for the West Regional Tournaments.
