Employer satisfaction survey reveals Cornwall’s top College provider

Truro and Penwith College has been ranked as one of the top education providers in the South West by local businesses.

The Department for Education’s (DfE) FE Choices Employer Satisfaction Survey 2018-2019 gives the Ofsted Outstanding College a satisfaction rating of 97.1% after contacting 452 employers.

This score places the College at the top for employer satisfaction for FE and Tertiary Colleges in Cornwall and as one of the top providers in the South West.

The satisfaction rating is being celebrated by staff at the College who work on the delivery of business training, professional qualifications and Apprenticeships, as well as local employers.

People Director of St Austell Brewery, Tamsyn Hawkins, was one of the first local employers to congratulate the College.

“Truro and Penwith College has been an absolute lynch pin, playing a fundamental role in the formulation of our provider network, as well as setting the bar for training standards so that other institutions in our network can learn from them,” she said. “They provide a fantastic recruitment and support function, boast great learning facilities and deliver consistently excellent standards of training. They are always striving to learn from their previous cohorts to make the next cohort even better than before.”

Darren Etherington, Production Director at engineering firm Watson Marlow, said: “Truro and Penwith College has been extremely supportive and flexible. Production engineering skills are very difficult to find so we worked together on creating a Production Engineering Apprenticeship Standard so that we can grow our own talent within the business. It’s extremely rewarding to see people grow in confidence, it’s also key to building sustainable skills within the business. Truro and Penwith College continues to invest in people, equipment and buildings to inspire young people into further education.”

Martin Tucker, Director of Penwith College, was thrilled with the survey results, saying: “The College’s Apprenticeships programme has had yet again a very successful year. An Apprenticeship programme is a true partnership between the employer, the Apprentice and the College and we pride ourselves on our flexibility and understanding of the needs of the employer’s industry and the future skills required.

“The consistently high performance and high-quality results shown in the FE Choices survey is a true reflection of this partnership working, which is underpinned by our timely completion and achievement rates that are well above the national averages.”

The College’s Apprenticeship programme continues to grow in both popularity and specialisms, now with over 600 Apprentices, over 450 employers and over 50 specialist areas. Click here to find out more about the College’s Apprenticeship provision.
