Foundation Studies Students are Fit for Life

Truro and Penwith College Foundation Studies students have been undertaking physical activity opportunities to support their mental health and physical wellbeing as part of an initiative delivered by the College’s national award-winning Health, Wellbeing and Sport (HWS) Team.

The Fit for College: Fit for Life programme has been specifically developed for Foundation Studies students, introducing them to weights and cardio vascular training equipment. The programme, which is funded by Sport England, is being delivered by experienced HWS fitness professionals at both Truro and Penwith sites.

The programme complements the other HWS programmes that are currently being delivered across the College to help tackle the health challenges associated with inactivity.

Government, Public Health England and Sport England are encouraging the development of new opportunities like this, sighting the positive link between regular physical activity and improved mental and physical health. Benefits include helping to maintain a healthy weight, managing stress, improving sleep patterns and building muscle, bone and joints strength.

The Fit for College: Fit for Life programme takes place in the College’s National Lottery funded HWS suite, using various pieces of training kit, including kettlebells, free weights and cardio vascular machines. On completion of the programme, all students receive a certificate of attendance, which they can add to their record of achievement.

The Fit for College: Fit for Life programme provides our students with an outstanding opportunity to participate in regular physical activity, which supports their personal development, mental health and physical wellbeing.
