Fully-Funded Furlough Training Scheme Extended
A leading local College has extended its range of funded training packages for furloughed staff in response to exceptionally high demand, with fully-funded training now also available in business and professional areas.
Ofsted Outstanding Truro and Penwith College launched its Furlough Training Scheme last year, with funding allowing it to waive the training costs of courses designed to upskill staff who have been furloughed in the hospitality, hair, beauty and complementary therapy sectors.

The expansion of the initiative will see further courses added in business and professional areas, all of which are also available to study for free thanks to part-funding from the European Social Fund, which will be matched by Truro and Penwith College for the duration of the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to provide this timely support to furloughed workers:

Charli Styles, European Projects Manager at Truro and Penwith College commented: “The Furlough Training Scheme is a huge socio-economic boost for Cornwall during what is an incredibly difficult time. The response we saw to the first round of courses was nothing short of phenomenal.
“It’s very pleasing to go even further to support people from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with the extension of the scheme and addition of business and professional courses, which will mean the scheme now benefits furloughed workers in almost any sector.
“I hope we see many more people coming forward and taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from our industry expert tutors, enhance their career prospects and support their mental health”.
The funded training is available to anyone whose usual employment has been impacted by the pandemic, or has been registered as furloughed at any time and is still available if learners return to work before the start of the course.
