Q&A

Q. What is your role at Inspiration?
A. I am one of the four Beauty Therapists we have at Inspiration Professional in Truro. I am currently an Apprentice studying towards my NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, which includes treatments such as massage, electrolysis and stone therapy.

Q. What does an average day at work look like for you?
A. We get pretty hectic down at the Salon. We offer lots of different treatments so it allows your day to be really varied - although in the summer it’s usually back to back pedicures in preparation for client’s holidays!

Q. Why did you want to be an Apprentice?
A. I studied my Level 2 on a part-time course, but I really wanted a more hands-on approach for my Level 3 qualification. Studying whilst working in the salon environment really allows you to perfect your treatments and find what you can uniquely offer as a therapist.

Working alongside learning, like you can as an Apprentice, is very beneficial as it gives you work-place experience that you wouldn’t necessarily get through studying alone. The experience I’ve had as an Apprentice at Inspiration has been so valuable, I’m able to study what I love whilst earning at the same time - it’s great!

Q. What is the most popular treatment for your clients at the moment and why?
A. This varies month to month. We may have an influx of massages for a few weeks, and then have nothing booked in but facials! I would say the always-popular treatment would be our Microdermabrasion facial. It’s fantastic for everyone and can really help make a difference to so many skin concerns; such as fine lines, scarring and pigmentation.

Q. What is your favourite product in the salon and why?
A. My favourite product at the moment is the Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Exfoliant. It’s a chemical exfoliant with 15% Salicylic Acid, which gives an intense exfoliation, helping to renew dull looking skin. It also helps with the penetration of other products used after. I love adding this product to my Prescriptive Facials.

Q. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
A. I worked for an online beauty retailer for four years before moving to Cornwall so it’s hard to find a brand I haven’t tried! Although one brand I’m definitely buying when I get through the stash under my bed (which probably won’t be until I’m 40 as I’m a skincare hoarder) will be The Ordinary. They have a great range of makeup and skincare at really affordable prices.

Q. What is your top aftercare tip for your clients?
A. It’s so important for clients to carry on treating themselves once they leave the Salon. Whether it’s moisturising their skin in this cold weather, or pushing their cuticles back after having a shower it really helps to prolong the effects of their treatment and allows them to get better results, a lot faster.
