Part-time student Rachel Saunders is playing a vital role at her sister-in-law’s wedding after completing the College’s Dress (Clothes) Making for All course on Monday evenings.
Initially starting the course to make time for herself and to do something enjoyable with friends, Rachel soon developed a passion for dressmaking, so much so that she hadn’t had
her fill at the end of the 10-week programme and immediately signed up for the course again the following term.
Rachel commented: “I have sewn my own clothes in the past but have always wanted to do pattern cutting.
“I originally started the course to do something for me with a few friends; the tutor Jo was so accommodating and really good at helping us. I enjoyed it so much I decided to carry on the following term.”
Since completing her course Rachel has exhibited work at the College’s annual Art and Design Exhibition on Lemon Quay, Truro and has taken on the mammoth challenge of designing and making bridesmaids dresses for her sister in law’s wedding in July.
“I have three dresses to make and have developed the design myself” said Rachel.
“Each dress is a bit different and the bridesmaids live in New Zealand, Canada and the UK (London), so the lessons I learnt about measuring and bodice making have been invaluable. I’ve even managed to have one fitting over skype!”
