The College’s Competitive Mathematics Challenge team qualified for the national Senior Team Maths Challenge after posting some great performances at the regional finals. Run by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust in partnership with the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, the Senior Team Maths Challenge is a competition giving students the opportunity to tackle a variety of mathematical activities while developing teamwork and communication skills. Teams of four students from schools and colleges across the UK take part in dozens of regional finals and high-scoring teams are invited to compete in the national final.
The Truro College team won their regional heat and went to represent Cornwall in the national final in London, where the top 88 schools and colleges from the country competed, coming in the top 20.
The team success isn’t the only Maths achievement for the College. A Level student Alex Mousley from Newquay, previously from Tretherras School, recently entered the British Mathematical Olympiad. Alex, who studies Maths, Economics, Computer Science and Physics at Truro College, achieved an excellent 96% in the individual senior challenge and got a distinction in the first round of the prestigious competition.
