New Business Support Package launched

Truro and Penwith College Business has launched a new package of training and funding options for businesses that will support recovery from COVID-19.

The College’s ‘Business Support Package’ has been launched with its new 2020/21 Business Training Solutions brochure which is available to download online; www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/businesssupport.

The new range of training programmes has been developed with Cornish employers to support the needs of local industry and is expected to be key in supporting businesses to adapt and recover from COVID-19, while funding will ensure employers can access the training they need in the current economic climate.

Truro and Penwith College Business boasts a highly experienced team of Business Development Advisors who are working in partnership with employers to support them to navigate the range of training and funding options available.

July’s Economic Statement saw the Chancellor announce a “brand-new bonus” of up to £2,000 for employers who recruit Apprentices between August 20 and January 21, in addition to the existing £1,000 incentive the government provides for new Apprentices aged 16 to 18 (or under 25 with an education, health and care plan).

Thanks to a £695 million government scheme introduced in 2018 the College’s Advisors have been ensuring SME employers only pay for 5% of their Apprenticeship training costs, while also supporting large employers to unlock the funding available in their Apprenticeship Levy.

In the 2019/20 academic year, the Department for Education (DfE) recognised Truro and Penwith College as Cornwall’s top College provider for employer satisfaction and as one of the UK’s top 10 College providers for Apprenticeship achievement.

COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of businesses having an online presence and the ability to sell their products and services online. The College has therefore enhanced its digital marketing offer; those who download the new Business Training Solutions Brochure will find everything they need for essential e-commerce with courses covering marketing planning and content creation to WordPress, SEO and Analytics.

Funding isn’t limited to Apprenticeships with the College also offering 50% funding for the majority of its professional development courses. The College also has access to funding and grants that will allow it to develop new courses and provide free pilots to help hone course content where an off-the-shelf course isn’t available.

During lockdown the College launched it’s ground-breaking Connected College initiative that has seen tens of thousands of online sessions successfully take place. Feedback from learners and employers has been exceptional citing the added convenience of learning remotely.

The College has therefore made a selection of its professional training programmes available remotely for 2020/21, all of which are also highlighted in the new brochure.

The College will be the only Cornish provider of new T Level courses in September, which include a 45-day industry placement that allows employers to benefit from fresh ideas, filling skills gaps, developing mentoring and supervisory skills in their organisation and gaining the reputational benefits of supporting young people.

Traineeships are courses that also include work placements that can last from six weeks, to twelve months giving employers the opportunity to offer work experience to a student, with a view to offering an Apprenticeship or T Level placement later. In July’s economic statement the Chancellor announced a new £1,000 incentive for employers offering Traineeship work placements.
