The College has secured sponsorship under the British Gypsum Thistle Partnership which supports closer relationships between manufacturers and colleges, while supporting skills and knowledge development to create the future plastering stars of a booming construction industry.
The Thistle Partnership gives access to resources, step-by-step videos, project tasks, brochures, guides, training and technical support and makes donations of materials and workwear for staff and students.
The construction industry is booming with the future looking bright as the UK Government plans to build houses and other construction projects as a means of boosting the economy.
Meanwhile there is a shortage of skilled construction professionals across all trades, including plastering. The College’s construction department is making significant strides to work with employers and address these skills gaps locally, and the Thistle Parnership is a significant step to enhance student’s learning experience.
Richard Billington, Programme Team Leader in Construction at Truro College, said of the new partnership and sponsorship: “This is quite an achievement as there is a lot of competition and a waiting list for the programme.
“British Gypsum are the UK’s leading manufacturer of interior lining systems and Thistle plaster. The ThistlePartnership was set up to encourage learning and to help address the current skills gap within the construction industry by providing market-leading and industry-relevant training services and support.
“We had an inspection by British Gypsum and they have awarded sponsorship and entry to the partnership. We are delighted.”
