Salon Cornwall 2020 welcomed hundreds of students and professionals working in salons and spas across Cornwall to Penventon Hotel on Monday.
Now in its fifth year, the annual event run by Truro and Penwith College is dedicated to aiding professional development through workshops, demonstrations, access to new products and tips on upcoming trends.
World Hairdressing Champion Steven Smart headlined the show along with HOB Academy’s Senior Educator Nestor Sanchez. Both treated audiences to demonstrations of the skills and techniques required to create the latest commercial and avant-garde looks in hairdressing.
Other workshops throughout the day included; ‘Injectables’ with Dr Assal, ‘An Insight into Cancer Touch Massage’ from Made for Life Organics, ‘Looking at Mental Health’ with Man Down and an early morning yoga session. Attendees were treated to an in-depth look at each topic to help enhance the offering within their business and bust myths for their clients and customers.
Over 15 trade exhibitors took their place in the Grand Ballroom of the hotel to allow visitors to browse the latest professional products and equipment available including: Eve Taylor, VTCT, Made for Life Organics, and Hamilton’s Barbers.
Downstairs the Lady Edith Suite saw holistic and complementary therapy demonstrations including; Bowen Treatments, McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release, Stone Therapy, Reiki, Reflexology and Crystal Healing.
Food and drink demonstrations hosted by the ESF part-funded project Hospitality Table Cornwall also took place in the Lady Edith Suite. The project’s course developer Dean Bungay DipWSET was joined by Kate Attlee owner of Sabzi, Rupert Cooper from Philleigh Way Cookery School, Carla Viladomat owner of El Huichol, and Jamie Coleman Head Chef from the Beach at Bude to offer nutritional demonstrations throughout the day including vegan alternatives; a huge part of the food and wellbeing industry.

The event followed the news that Truro and Penwith College was recognise as the best provider of hair and beauty Apprenticeships in the UK at last week’s AAC Apprenticeship Awards, held at the ICC Birmingham.
Niki Thomas Project Coordinator of Hospitality Table Cornwall said: “Health and nutrition is a very important aspect for those working in the industry. We wanted to bring along professionals that could show attendees appealing, yet balanced and nutritional dishes and drinks – something that can be introduced in their professional environments, and also to sup-port their personal wellbeing.
