Students receive generous donation

Level 3 Bricklaying students at Truro College have new materials to work with after a generous donation from Maen Karne.

Maen Karne, Cornwall’s leading Bulk Bag and Loose Aggregate and Concrete Supplier, donated 720 Concrete blocks to the College, which the students will use for their assessment work.

Richard Billington, Deputy Team Leader in Construction, Automotive and Engineering at the College, was incredibly grateful for the donation, saying: “I would like to say a big thank you to Lucy Lewis and the team at Maen Karne for their generous donation to the 95 bricklayers here at Truro College.

“Maen Karne like to support the future of construction in Cornwall and have donated materials for the second time now to the Bricklaying department. Such donations really support the students in the creation of further works, it enables us as a provider to deliver an extended curriculum catering for creation and project works that otherwise would not be possible.”

“We are pleased to be able to help the community and students at the college, as a Cornish-born company with such local roots we feel it is very important to encourage the growth of our own. Maen Karne is a family in its own right and going from strength to strength across the country. With huge investment in our Concrete Block manufacturing plant we have increased our block production capacity and look to be pushing close to 18 million blocks into the market over the next year…’s hoping that some of the students at Truro College will go on to build with our products when they are using their new skills out in the workplace.”
