The College will be the only Cornish provider to deliver T Levels from September 2020. Initially T Levels will be available in Construction, Digital and Education and Childcare and differ from traditional qualifications as they include 45 days of work experience over the two-year course.
Brogan currently studies A Levels with the College and has taken advantage of the opportunity to have his timetable adapted so he can spend one day a week working as a site manager’s assistant with Midas.
Astrid Gower commented: “The College is thrilled to offer this opportunity to Brogan, he has gained some brilliant practical experience that will really enhance his CV.
“This trial has also allowed us to test our timetabling ahead of T Levels joining the curriculum next year and I’m pleased to say it’s been a complete success!”
Brogan isn’t the only student to benefit from the trial; students from the College’s construction department visited a Midas site in Penryn last week where Brogan took them on a tour of the site and discussed his experience of working as a site manager’s assistant, a career path that will be open to the students when they complete their studies.
With such an extensive work placement programme, T Levels are a great choice for those looking for those wishing to enter the workplace or progress to higher level Apprenticeships or other University level study when they finish their training.
The T Level team will join the rest of the College at Truro College Open Morning on Saturday 7 March, to offer help and advice between 10am and 1pm. Visit; www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/openevents/ for more information.
