Truro and Penwith College announce virtual Open Days

A leading local college has announced it will hold its first ever Virtual Open Days in November, offering visitors the opportunity to chat to tutors while they tour and explore everything the college has to offer online.

Ofsted Outstanding Truro and Penwith College typically welcomes hundreds of visitors to its Open Events throughout the year, the first of which are scheduled to take place 10am – 3pm on Saturday 7 November at Truro College and Saturday 28 November at Penwith College.

Both events will now be held virtually with the opportunity to chat to tutors live in their virtual teaching rooms, tour the campuses virtually and explore the outstanding facilities and courses on offer.

The ground-breaking events will be live on the College website and accessed by visiting www.truro-penwith.ac.uk.

Visitors will fly in and out of the College’s art studios, science labs and sports pitches as they tour the College campuses through new state-of-the-art 360 Virtual Tours.

Moving through the various teaching areas will give insight into life as a student, getting up close to music studios, engineering and construction classrooms and high-end, state-of-the-art facilities that that students use throughout their studies.

‘Subject Spotlight’ videos will provide visitors with an insight into the wide range of courses and qualifications on offer, which include A Levels, Apprenticeships, Diplomas and brand-new T Levels, as well as the College’s extensive range of University level courses and Part-Time Courses for leisure and professional development.

Just like a traditional Open Event the College’s Ofsted Outstanding tutors and support staff will be available live throughout the day in virtual teaching rooms. Visitors will drop into these rooms to meet staff and ask any subject specific queries or find out more about applications, transport, student support and much more.

The Open Events come after another very successful year for the College that saw the Department for Education (DfE) select Truro and Penwith as one of 20 colleges to lead a national project to develop approaches to online learning, after it’s ground-braking move to deliver complete timetables online throughout the national lockdown.

The College also became the only provider in Cornwall to deliver new T Levels from September 2020 after being selected by the DfE and began construction on a new £7million facility, that when completed, will host facilities for technical subjects matching the best in the UK thanks to its partnership in the South West Institute of Technology.

This year Truro and Penwith College university level students also ranked the College within the top five Higher Education providers in Cornwall and Devon for overall course satisfaction for the third year running while students also received some excellent results, with 79% of degree top-up graduates achieving a first or 2:1 and over 100 students graduating successfully at Foundation Degree.
