Amy’s Story

Social media whizz, Amy Bowden, has been offered a full-time role at Penwith College while completing her Apprenticeship.

“To anyone, I would say 100% do it. You’re doing the job, there’s no better way to learn than that.”

Subjects studied: Level 3 Marketing Assistant Apprenticeship

Former school: Humphry Davy School, Penzance

What’s next: Continue to develop skills in her current role at Penwith College

My story:

Amy spent two years at College before deciding the Apprenticeship route was for her, and has now secured a full-time marketing role gathering news stories and social media content for the College. She has successfully created an Instagram page for Penwith College and has introduced a new line of communication with the local community within a medium that reaches parents, carers, and students.

Amy said: “Getting the practical experience along the way was so important. It has helped me so much to gain experience. When I was sat in a classroom all week, I wasn’t doing my best. I started the Apprenticeship and enjoyed it so much. I was working and learning on the job, and you get paid for it!

“Changing from in-person lessons to teams was difficult, I feel like I learn a lot better in person. The lecturers have been amazing though and so supportive throughout the whole thing.

“Everyone in the office was really nice and really welcoming. Everyone has loads of experience with different areas.

“To anyone, I would say 100% do it. You’re doing the job, there’s no better way to learn than that. You’re rewarded along the way with knowledge and experience!

“Apprenticeships show you don’t have to go through the university mill to get a job in marketing. I’m still developing my skills and I’m just enjoying what I’m doing now.”
