Name: Roman
Former school: Camborne Science and International Academy

What’s next: Bricklaying Apprenticeship
My Story
Student Roman is excited to develop his skills through the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying as he works toward achieving an apprenticeship, which he hopes will be the next step in his journey.
Roman moved to Cornwall from Vinnytsia, Ukraine in 2022 after the war broke out. Settling in Camborne, he enrolled at Camborne Science and International Academy, where he not only completed several GCSEs but also became fluent in English in an impressively short time.
From a young age, Roman knew he wanted to work in construction. When he arrived at Truro College, he was thrilled to discover the variety of options available to help him pursue his dream. The College’s supportive environment has given him the freedom to explore his interests and plan for a bright future in the construction industry.
“The staff here always go above and beyond to help,” Roman shared. “They never miss a beat to step in and act when I need guidance.
“They always know what to say and always go out of their way to make sure I’m okay.”
Roman describes his favourite parts of the course as: “Working in a team, lots of practice as well as a lot more hands on experience.”
Roman’s immediate goal is to secure a bricklaying apprenticeship after completing his course. While he hasn’t decided on a company yet, he feels confident that the staff at Truro and Penwith College will help him make the right choice.
Looking back on his journey so far, Roman has a message for others pursuing their dreams: “Don’t be afraid to do what you want. Listen to yourself and take the right steps.”
