Ali Wallace

Ali has been teaching filmmaking on University courses here at University Centre Truro & Penwith since 2000 and you will often find her in the studio teaching students new skills and encouraging their creativity.

As the Programme Lead for FdA Film, Media and Photography, she ensures students have had experience working within various forms of aural, visual, audio-visual and other electronic and digital media and finish the course being able to use the processes involved in pre-production, production, distrubution and circulation.

Ali said: “I have had the privilege of working with a wide variety of creative and talented students to advance their skillsets and then see them go onto work in the industry both locally, nationally and internationally. I feel very proud to work in Cornwall and to have been part of training people to work in the vibrant creative industries.”

“One of the brilliant aspects of the University experience here is thtat the staff themselves are practicing filmakers, photographers and artists. The students can take advantage of that incredible subject expertise and then go on to make amazing things. Many of the film directors and production companies in Cornwall did their courses here.”

Working on several of her own projects alongside teaching, Ali recalls her Career Highlight: “I was given an award by Richard Attenborough at the BAFTAS for a film I produced and recorded and edited the sound on.”

Ali’s advice is: “Watch films, look at professional photographers work and be inspired. The best part about being a student is having access to all the amazing equipment – use it, make as much content as possible, have fun and enjoy the freedom you have at this stage of your career to be in control of what you want to produce.”
