Aimed at adult learners who would like the opportunity to retrain in art and design, the course will enable you to gain a broad understanding of subjects within the art and design framework giving students the knowledge, skills and understanding to explore, develop and test their creativity in areas such as fine art, drawing, painting, ceramics, glass, mixed media image creation, specialist design software, textile processes, printmaking and photography. The course will equip you with the opportunity to identify the area of specialism most tailored to your aspirations and ability. There will also be a structured programme of contextual studies which explore art movements and cultural issues associated with your study of art and design practice.

Where will it take me?

The Access to Higher Education programme is designed to give students the necessary grounding to progress on to Higher Education courses. The college has an excellent record of student progression to Degree level study. The majority of British Universities will accept Access to Higher Education courses as an alternative to A Levels and other more traditional routes. Students can apply for places on FdA and BA (Hons) courses in areas such as fine art, photography, contemporary crafts, interior design, 3D design, illustration, graphics and visual communication, fashion design and digital visualisation. Penwith College offers a one year HNC and a two year HND in Art and Design (Fine Art and Contemporary Crafts).
