HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering

If you have an interest in discovering more about how mechanical things work and how they are designed and manufactured, then this course is for you. It will provide an opportunity to study. higher-level engineering at Level 4 or 5. You will probably already have a Level 3 qualification, either as an engineering apprentice or in appropriate STEM subjects, and an interest in maths.

The course is designed to strengthen your core knowledge of engineering principles and techniques and allow specialist project work in your own individual engineering area. Understanding mechanical engineering principles is essential for the design and manufacture of products used in all engineering industries. The greater your knowledge of engineering techniques the more you will be able to solve problems and create sustainable, efficient and durable design solutions.

The teaching will include access to specialist software, engineering workshops and labs with test and measurement equipment. The teaching staff have industrial experience and maintain strong industry links. You will study engineering maths and science, computer aided design and manufacture, project management and workshop practices. There is also the opportunity for creative design and problem-solving in the project-based modules. you will learn about the science of materials and their engineering properties and learn 3D design using SolidWorks to create objects and assemblies.

On successful completion of the course, you will know what modern engineering tools are available - to help you research the theory, apply computer modelling and understand methods that can put your ideas into practice. There is an opportunity to study full-time or part-tine to gain either the HNC or HND qualification.
