After studying the UAL Extended Diploma in Art & Design at Truro & Penwith College, Annabelle achieved a Distinction and has now taken the next step in her creative journey with one of the world’s leading beauty brands.
On receiving news that she had been accepted onto the Apprenticeship, Annabelle shared: “I’m super excited and honoured to have been selected for the L’Oreal degree apprenticeship scheme. It’s so hard to get into and was completely shocked when I got the email through. I’m really looking forward to being able to learn in a real-life environment with the L’Oreal team, meeting the other apprentices and moving to London!”
Reflecting on her time at College, Annabelle said: “It was a great course for me because I’m quite a creative person.”
Her hard work and talent were rewarded with a Distinction in the qualification.
The UAL Extended Diploma is designed for students who want to develop practical creative skills while building a professional portfolio. Learners explore a wide range of creative disciplines, including visual communication, illustration, graphic design, photography, fine art, 3D design and creative problem-solving, helping them discover their strengths while preparing for careers in the creative industries.
Throughout the course, students work on industry-inspired projects, learn how to communicate ideas effectively, develop technical skills and build a portfolio that showcases their talents to employers and universities alike.
Annabelle also offered advice to other creative students who may be unsure about their future: “In school, I struggled quite a bit academically, so when I came here it gave me a chance to do something I actually wanted to do. Don’t feel like it’s going to hold you back. For me, it opened up opportunities I might never have considered. Just don’t worry about it and go with your instincts.”
As one of the world’s leading beauty and cosmetics companies, L’Oréal offers highly competitive apprenticeship opportunities, making Annabelle’s achievement particularly impressive. Her progression demonstrates that studying a creative subject can lead to a wide variety of career paths, from design and branding to marketing, content creation and product development.
Whether progressing to university, employment or Degree Apprenticeships with major employers, students on the Art & Design programme are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to turn their creativity into a career.
We wish Annabelle every success as she begins her exciting new role with L’Oréal and hope her story inspires other aspiring creatives to pursue their passion and explore the opportunities available to them.
