At Truro & Penwith College, our Level 3 qualifications are designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed to progress to university, apprenticeships or employment.
Whether you choose A Levels, V Levels or another equivalent qualification, you’ll benefit from expert teaching, excellent facilities and outstanding progression opportunities.
A Levels
A Levels (or Advanced Levels) are ideal for students who enjoy studying subjects in depth and want to keep a wide range of progression options open.
Most students study three subjects over two years, developing specialist knowledge and valuable analytical skills.
You will need: Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above. Grades 5 and 6 will be required in certain subjects. See course pages for specific requirements.
At Truro & Penwith College, our students consistently achieve results that place the College among the highest-performing further education colleges in the country. In our latest results:
- 576 A* and A Grades.
- 100% pass rate in 18 A Level subjects.
- Overall pass rate of 98%.
V Levels
V Levels (or Vocational Levels) are new Level 3 qualifications that offer a vocational pathway for students who want to explore different sectors before deciding where to specialise.
Each V Level will be equivalent in size to one A Level. This means you will be able to combine V Levels with A Levels, creating a programme that reflects your interests and career ambitions.
You will need: A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and/or English. To combine V Level/s with A Levels, you must achieve Grade 4 in both Maths and English and meet the entry requirements for your chosen A Levels.
From September 2027 the College will be offering V Levels in:
- Finance & Accounting
- Education & Early Years
- Digital Systems & Data
Other equivalents
Other A Level equivalents include AAQs (Alternative Academic Qualifications), Diplomas and Extended Certificates.
These courses are equivalent to one or more A Levels, but are more skills and career focussed. They are assessed throughout your course and can be mixed with A Levels.
