Truro and Penwith College prides itself on the excellence of its sports and health programmes, facilities, partnerships and quality of teaching across all provision. 

The College is continually investing in the advancement of education and improving facilities in this exciting field, including a £500,000 investment in a state-of-the-art 4G synthetic turf rugby pitch. 

Alongside your full-time Sport & Protective Services course, you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of dedicated sport Academies designed to improve your performance, expose you to the next level in your chosen sport or simply to develop and improve your love of a particular activity. 

Students and staff are particularly proud of the partnerships the College has with leading professional teams and associations across a variety of UK sports in Cornwall and across the UK. Each is designed to expose our students to the reality of professionalism and promote the values of hard work, dedication and continual improvement.

team work and leadership

You will have the opportunity to participate, compete and excel in a wide range of physical activities. Your team work and leadership qualities will be expanded in these challenging and rewarding areas. Our sports teams play within the AoC Sport organisation, which runs leagues and cups across the country, as well as sport specific competitions and tournaments. On our Protective Services courses, you will benefit from visits by members of the uniformed and armed services as well as having the chance to visit key public services such as the Army, Marines and Truro Crown Court.

Partnerships with professional sports clubs allow athletes to gain professional pathway experience.

The College has fantastic physical resources including a sprung floor sports hall, indoor MUGA, sport specific floodlit AstroTurf pitches, synthetic rugby pitch, fitness and strength and conditioning suites, physiology labs and therapy suites.

Alumni

Former students have gone on to play on the World Open Golf Tour, compete in the World Athletic Championships and Commonwealth Games and had successful careers in the England Rugby team, Rugby 7s and joined the Lions Tour.

Academy

The College is the Regional Academy for Team Bath Premiership Netball club and the Rugby Academy has strong links with Premiership team Exeter Chiefs RFC where many Academy players have started their national and international careers.

Experience

Gain real world experience through strong links with both the armed forces and blue light services. The Protective Services Level 3 includes work experience and trips with the Fire Service, RAF Police and Navy plus residentials with the Army.

Whether you’re studying A Levels or a Diploma, you’ll have access to a wealth of cutting-edge equipment. Exceptional gyms, a dedicated cricket building, playing pitches and performance-mapping technology are all at your disposal. There are also over 50 free activity sessions delivered each week as part of our award-winning Health, Wellbeing and Sport programme, including trampolining, table tennis and spinning. 

COMPETE AND EXCEL

You’ll benefit from our associations and partnerships with excellent sports institutions. As a member of the prestigious AoC Sport organisation, Truro and Penwith College teams have the chance to compete in leagues and cups across the country. 

PUT THROUGH YOUR PACES

On our Protective Services course, you will benefit from visits by members of the uniformed and armed services as well as having the chance to visit key public services such as the Army, Marines and Truro Crown Court. TRURO CITY FOOTBALL CLUB

This exciting and ground-breaking collaboration will see Truro City develop a player pathway academy for 16 to 18 year olds, in conjunction with the College, working to a full training programme developed by the club, to prepare young Cornish footballers to play at the highest level possible.

The freedom you get at College is great and you are doing subjects that you have chosen and will help your future career. I really enjoyed the expeditions that we would go on and the skills I acquired and built while I was there. I still use these regularly to this day.
