Hometown: Bodmin
Course: BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing – Higher Level Apprenticeship
My Story:
Having previously qualified as a Teaching Assistant and spending more than twenty years in an education setting, Anna decided to return to education herself as a mature student in order to pursue her dream of becoming an Ambulance Nurse. Now Anna is training for her Registered Nurse degree at the University Centre whilst volunteering as a community First Responder with SWAST ambulance service to gain further experience and enjoying every minute.
Anna said: “As the course is an apprenticeship, I have to be strict to fit my family in, but you are given the opportunity to factor in that.”
“The tutors give tips and hints on how to help with assignments breaking the subject material down and giving time to study.”
“I chose Truro as it was nearer to home, and the courses fit with my life.”
“We occasionally have large lectures, but mostly our class is 18 of us and my cohort has become family, we have made friends for life, I am sure.”
“Age is not a boundary! Jump you won’t regret it; I spent 24 years in an education work setting and it’s definitely scary to change but this is life-changing!”
Anna’s advice for anyone looking at returning to education is: “Go for it! It really is the best thing I have ever done.”
