The Nominees

Tamsin Allen – Digital Support Officer (Project Management Level 5 Apprentice) at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust

After 13 years in a clinical role, Tamsin was forced to change career after being diagnosed with a connective tissue disease – a challenge that would have stopped many in their tracks. Instead, Tamsin turned adversity into opportunity, retraining as a Digital Support Officer with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and pursuing a Level 5 Project Management apprenticeship.

Her determination to succeed has seen her flourish in her new role, leading the pioneering Silent Hospital Pilot Project, which transformed the postnatal ward experience at RCHT. The initiative shortened patient stays by half a day on average, delivering an annualised saving of £75,000 in just six months. It also created a calmer, more healing environment for both patients and staff.

Balancing full-time work, motherhood, chronic illness and ongoing studies, Tamsin continues to go above and beyond, mentoring other apprentices and embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. Her positivity, resilience and leadership have made her an invaluable part of the Women and Children’s Hospital programme team and a true inspiration to all who know her.
