Martin Dart
Apprentice Machine Engineer at Progress Engineering and Truro & Penwith College
After many life challenges, life-saving surgery and redundancy’s, Martin Dart decided to rebuild his career by pursuing his passion for engineering through an apprenticeship. Joining Progress Engineering with very little machining experience, Martin has developed into a skilled, trusted and respected member of its machine shop.
Martin’s initiative has made a lasting difference to the business. Recognising that its XYZ machines were not being used to their full potential, he researched Fusion software with his tutor and demonstrated what it could achieve, helping convince the company to invest. The software is now an essential part of the machine shop, enabling it to take on more complex work and attract new customers.
Martin now shares his skills with colleagues and promotes apprenticeships at school and college events. He has recently delivered an Engineering workshop at Newquay Tretherras and took part in a radio interview, while also volunteering to restore historic steam engines in his spare time.
