The qualifications are designed to be delivered in an applied way, bringing together appropriate content with practical and technical skills. At a Level 1 qualification the pass standard requires learners to complete routine, simple and directed tasks by applying their knowledge and skills. It is expected that learners complete tasks fully under supervision, direction or with guidance. Learners will be expected to complete tasks in greater detail or with greater confidence or independence.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Your learning will be through lectures and practical sessions including trips and visits. You will be expected to undertake research, attend visits to health and social care settings and create presentations and projects.
This programme of study is continually assessed through coursework, observations and presentations. You will need to complete all the following units in order to pass the Introductory Diploma:
- Intro MU 1.1 Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Intro MU 1.2 Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Intro MU 1.4 Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Intro MU 1.6 Introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- PWCS 03 Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children and young people’s settings
- PWCS 04 Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children and young people’s settings
- PWCS 05 Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health, social care and children and young people’s settings
- Intro OP 1.11 Introduction to the physical care needs of babies and young childre
- OP 1.12 Introduction to the development of children and young people through play
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grades 9 – 4 in these subjects you will be required to attend additional lessons in these areas. These are varied study sessions and are designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.
Skills in maths and English will support your future, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. Employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have good maths and English GCSEs which is why the development of these skills is so important, whatever you do.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
Previous students who have achieved the required grades have taken the opportunity to continue their studies onto our NCFE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or our NCFE Level 2 Early Years Practitioner course.
Your achievement on this course is dependent upon excellent attendance, punctuality, ability to meet deadlines and commitment. You will learn in a friendly atmosphere, using a variety of assessment methods including:

- Observations
Whilst there are no specific entry requirements students must have a keen interest in exploring work within the caring sectors.
Throughout the course you would be required to complete at least 15 hours of independent study time per week. To support you in this you will have access to lecturers via email and will be able to access support materials and resources via our virtual learning environment.
