WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

Delivered over three days a week for up to three years, Connect offers a highly personalised curriculum shaped around your individual strengths, interests, communication and sensory needs, alongside the outcomes identified in your EHCP. Learning takes place at your own pace within small class sizes allowing you time and space to develop self-awareness, express preferences, manage transitions and change, explore new environments and find ways to communicate your wants and needs.

Care, therapy and opportunities for sensory regulation are integrated into the College day so that you can participate in learning in ways that work for you.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will have opportunities to develop communication, make choices, build relationships and become more confident engaging with the people and world around you. You will develop personal and independent living skills through multisensory and real-life experiences including sensory stories, exploring the environment, preparing food, accessing the College and wider community, health and wellbeing activities, volunteering, enterprise and enrichment.

English, maths and digital skills are embedded into meaningful everyday activities to develop literacy and numeracy through multisensory experiences or work towards personalised Pre-Entry or Entry Level learning.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?

Your next step will depend on your individual skills and goals. Some Connect learners may progress on to our Engage programme while others may join community-based opportunities, alternative training provisions, volunteering, adult social care or supported living alongside continuing to develop independence, relationships and participation within their community.

Whatever your destination, we will help you transition from college, build on your strengths and prepare for a next step that is meaningful to you and your EHCP.

During your first six weeks with us, you will complete a baseline assessment through everyday learning activities and experiences. This helps us understand your starting point, recognise your strengths and identify the areas you would like to develop.

Your baseline is used alongside your EHCP outcomes to agree meaningful, individual targets. We use RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) to recognise progress throughout your programme, including achievements that may not be captured through formal qualifications. Progress is regularly reviewed and recorded using Evidence for Learning, helping you, your family and the staff working with you to see how your skills, confidence and independence are developing over time.

Assessment is part of your everyday learning and is designed to recognise your individual progress and achievements throughout your time with us.
