More than 2500 Year 10 pupils from schools across Cornwall have attended Taster Days at Truro and Penwith College during the summer term, giving them the opportunity to experience College life ahead of making their post-16 choices.

Designed to inspire students to look, reach and go further, the Taster Days took place across the College’s Truro, Penwith and Bodmin campuses.

Dedicated Taster Days were hosted for pupils from schools across Cornwall, including Brannel School, Poltair School, Penrice Academy, Pool Academy, The Roseland Academy, Penair School, Penryn College, Richard Lander School, Wadebridge School, Redruth School, Five Islands Academy, Mounts Bay Academy, St Ives School, Humphry Davy School, Hayle Academy, Cape Cornwall School and Mullion School.

Throughout the day, pupils experienced a timetable similar to that of a College student, taking part in lessons based on the subjects they had chosen to explore. They also met expert lecturers, experienced the College’s industry-standard facilities and gained a better understanding of the opportunities available after Year 11.

The timing of the Taster Days allows Year 10 pupils to reflect on the subjects that interest them most over the summer before attending a College Open Event in the autumn, ahead of applications opening in October.

The Taster Days have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and school staff across Cornwall.

April Stevenson, Head of Futures and Future Medics Lead at Penrice Academy, said: “Our students had a brilliant experience at the Taster Day. The feedback from students has been really positive, and they really enjoyed the sessions. We’d like to thank everyone at Truro and Penwith College for making the day so welcoming and well organised.”

Charlotte Bassett, Careers Team at Wadebridge School, added: “The feedback from both our students and staff has been incredibly positive. The Taster Day was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience College life and explore the courses available to them. We’d like to thank the team at Truro and Penwith College for all of their hard work in making the day such a success.”

The College’s Taster Days form part of its commitment to supporting young people as they begin exploring their post-16 options, helping them make informed decisions about their future through first-hand experience of College life.

Applications for September 2027 open in October 2026. Year 10 pupils and their families can find out more about upcoming College Open Events by visiting Events Archive – Truro & Penwith College.
