Two students from Truro and Penwith College's Progression Pathways course are celebrating remarkable achievements after one secured a place at a specialist performing arts college in London and another was recognised for her outstanding contribution to the College community.

Natty will progress to the renowned Orpheus Centre in London this autumn to continue pursuing her passion for the performing arts, while Violet has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Others award at the Truro and Roseland Learning Community Awards for her work representing fellow students through the College’s Student Council.

Their journeys highlight how the College’s Progression Pathways programme supports students to build confidence, independence and the skills they need to achieve their ambitions.

For Natty, College has become much more than a place to study. It has been a community where she has developed her confidence, embraced new opportunities and discovered greater independence.

A passionate performer and ambassador for the Down’s Syndrome Association, Natty has used her platform to champion inclusion, representation and equal opportunities while developing her own creative talents.

Natty said: “College has given me the confidence to be myself and follow my passion for performing.”

Throughout the Progression Pathways course, Natty has embraced every opportunity to perform. Dance and Performing Arts quickly became her favourite part of College life, allowing her to express herself creatively while building the confidence to perform on stage.

Natty continued: “My teachers are thoughtful, funny, supportive and talented. They encourage me to achieve my best and have helped me develop my confidence and performance skills.”

This autumn, Natty will begin the next stage of her journey at the Orpheus Centre, a specialist college that empowers young disabled adults to build independent and fulfilling lives through the performing and creative arts. She is looking forward to working alongside industry professionals while continuing to develop her performance skills.

Fellow Progression Pathways student Violet has also flourished during her time at Truro and Penwith College.

Determined to make a difference, Violet joined the Student Council to represent students who may not always feel confident speaking up for themselves. Her commitment to supporting others was recognised when she received the Outstanding Contribution to Others award at the Truro and Roseland Learning Community Awards.

Violet said: “Since starting College, I have become much more confident and independent.”

Alongside studying subjects including Performing Arts, Maths and My Skills, My Future, Violet has enjoyed the variety the course offers and the independence that College life has brought.

Violet continued: “My teachers are supportive and make lessons enjoyable. I know I can always go to them if I need help or guidance.”

As she prepares to begin her third year, Violet is looking forward to gaining more work experience within the local community while continuing to develop the skills and confidence that will support her future ambitions.
