Choosing the right qualification after GCSEs can be the first step towards an exciting future, and for Casey, the decision to study the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning has helped him develop the skills, knowledge and industry experience needed to progress to university.
Having previously attended Helston Community College, Casey chose Truro and Penwith College because he felt it was the right next step after completing his GCSEs.
One of the key reasons he chose a T Level was the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace alongside his studies. The qualification’s combination of classroom learning and industry placement gave him insight into the sector and helped prepare him for his future career.
Reflecting on his time at College, Casey says the people he met made the biggest impact on his experience. “The classroom bond between friends, peers and lecturers.”
He was also keen to recognise the support of the teaching team throughout his studies. “Ryan, Michelle, Steve A and Steve W were all fantastic lecturers through my time at College, and fantastic friends too.” The strong sense of community within the course helped Casey enjoy his studies while developing the skills and confidence needed for the future.
His hard work has now secured him a place at university, where he will study Architecture and Environmental Engineering.
Looking back on his time at College, Casey has some simple but valuable advice for students starting their own journey. “Keep up with your work. Enjoy your time here as it is very short. Choose a subject you love!” As he prepares for the next chapter, Casey leaves College with new experiences, lasting friendships and a clear direction for the future.
