“It’s severely boosted my confidence as much as it possibly can and I’m so grateful.”

Former School: Hayle Academy

Course: Level 2 in Food, Beverage and Professional Cookery

After beginning her career in hairdressing, Jasmine realised her future lay elsewhere. Already working in catering alongside her studies, she had discovered a passion for hospitality and decided to pursue it full-time at Penwith College.

Since joining the Hospitality programme, Jasmine says the experience has transformed both her skills and confidence. “My experiences so far have been absolutely incredible. I’ve learned so much!”

As part of the Front of House team at Senara, Jasmine helps deliver professional restaurant service to paying customers while gaining valuable industry experience. Being involved in an award-winning restaurant has reinforced her passion for hospitality. “It shows me that I’ve got the resilience and the passion to do what I love the most, which is talking to people and making them feel just as happy as I am doing this.”

One of the biggest changes Jasmine has noticed since joining the course is her personal growth. Before studying hospitality, she describes herself as someone who lacked confidence and preferred to avoid social situations. “I used to be a very anti-social person. I didn’t want to go out, didn’t want to do anything.”

Working directly with customers has helped her step outside her comfort zone and develop vital communication skills. “It’s severely boosted my confidence as much as it possibly can and I’m so grateful.”

Throughout her time at College, Jasmine has taken part in a range of industry experiences, including working alongside chefs from luxury country house hotel Gidleigh Park. She has also worked on events supporting Hospitality Action, gaining insight into the support available across the wider hospitality industry.

Looking ahead, Jasmine has clear goals for her future career. “I really want to become a mixologist doing cocktails.” She hopes to continue her studies before pursuing opportunities in Bristol, a city she fell in love with during a previous visit.

Jasmine credits the support of staff and the welcoming atmosphere at Penwith College for helping her succeed. “The help and support that you receive here is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced personally. All of the staff and students are just amazing. Everyone’s kind and helpful and willing to help in any way possible.”
