Nadeem – BSc Applied Computing Technologies

Back to Case Studies

“I’m gobsmacked. I was expecting second class, but I came away with a first, which is really good. Very exciting.”

Course: BSc Applied Computing Technologies

Next Steps: MSc in Cyber Security at Plymouth University

Results Day delivered an incredible surprise for Nadeem, who graduated from University Centre Truro and Penwith with First Class Honours in BSc Applied Programming.

Having returned to education after a 22-year break, Nadeem was expecting a 2:1 classification. Instead, he was delighted to discover he had achieved a First.

For Nadeem, the achievement marks the successful completion of a challenging but rewarding journey. Returning to higher education as an adult learner while balancing work and family life required determination and commitment.

“As an adult coming back after 22 years into education, it was not easy, especially balancing work life at home as well with two young kids and a wife.”

Despite the challenges, Nadeem remained focused on his studies and was determined to succeed.

“It was tough, but I put my focus on it. I made some priorities and made sure I was focusing time on my studies.”

Before enrolling at University Centre Truro and Penwith, Nadeem had built a career as a Fibre Operating Engineer with BT. Looking for a new challenge and a change in direction, he decided to return to education and develop new skills in computing and programming.

One of the highlights of his degree was the chance to work closely with lecturers and gain hands-on experience in practical sessions.

“I really enjoyed some of the lab work, the practical programming and networking with Dave and Richard. That was really good.”

Following his First-Class Honours success, Nadeem is already looking ahead to the next stage of his journey and has applied to study an MSc in Cyber Security at Plymouth University.
