Results Day was one to remember for Sam, who achieved an outstanding First Class Honours degree in LLB Law from University Centre Truro and Penwith. After returning to education in her thirties, balancing her studies alongside raising three children and overcoming significant personal challenges, Sam’s result is a testament to her hard work and resilience.

When Sam first applied to study law, she didn’t have the qualifications needed to start a degree programme. Instead, she began her journey on an Access to Higher Education course, which provided a pathway into higher education and ultimately onto the LLB Law degree.

“I was 33 when I applied for my Access course because I wanted to do my law degree but didn’t have the qualifications. Truro offered me that opportunity.”

Throughout her studies, Sam balanced family life, including caring for two children with additional needs, while remaining committed to achieving her goals. She credits her tutors’ support for helping her succeed.

“Without tutors like Terrina and Emma, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Having been away from education for 17 years, Sam found the smaller class sizes and supportive environment at University Centre Truro and Penwith invaluable.

Alongside her studies, Sam also competed as an international Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete, demonstrating the dedication and discipline that helped her excel both inside and outside the classroom.

“I came in with a few concussions… but thankfully they didn’t affect my grades!”

Following her outstanding achievement, Sam is now preparing for the next stage of her legal career with a place on a Master’s degree programme at the University of Law in London.
