Truro and Penwith College is celebrating the outstanding achievements of two former Creative Media Production & Technology students, who were recognised at this year’s prestigious RTS Devon & Cornwall Student Awards, held at the Regal Theatre in Redruth. The ceremony, sponsored by Screen Cornwall and hosted by ‘Kernow King’ Ed Rowe, celebrated the very best emerging talent in film and media across the region.

Coco Potter Wins Craft Award for Editing

Former Level 3 Creative Media student Coco Potter took home the Craft Award for Editing for her short film Sound of Our Lives, impressing judges with her technical skill, creativity and attention to detail.

Coco was presented with her award by Winston Tija from Beagle Media, who sponsored the category.

Upon receiving her award, Coco thanked her lecturers for their support throughout her studies, recognising the vital role they played in building her confidence and helping her develop the skills that contributed to her success.

Her former tutor, Hannah Abram Henson, said: “It was a great ceremony, and I felt super proud of Coco.”

Recognition From the Royal Television Society

A spokesman for the Royal Television Society, Devon & Cornwall, praised the standard of work produced by Truro College students, sharing:

“Congratulations for Truro College’s recent nominations for the RTS Devon & Cornwall Student Awards! An amazing achievement for what is the strongest year of entries we have ever had. Numerous judges have praised the quality of work from your students.”

The spokesman highlighted the significance of these nominations, noting that Truro College’s entries were competing against work from large production crews at degree level or higher. In contrast, FE students at Truro College independently manage every stage of their production, from initial ideas and planning through to filming, editing, and post‑production.

With no separate category for college‑level or FE submissions in the RTS Devon and Cornwall Student Awards, being nominated in these categories represents a remarkable achievement.

Second Nomination: Dylan McPherson in Factual – Short Form

Truro College also celebrated the success of former Creative Media student Dylan McPherson, who was nominated in the Factual – Short Form category for his film The RNLI Lifeguards.

Media lecturer and Dylan’s former tutor, Cleo Twist, praised his commitment and professionalism:

“Dylan consistently stood out for his determination to achieve the highest standard in his work. He approached projects with genuine curiosity, particularly around the technical decisions needed to realise his creative vision, and this really shows in the quality of his films.”

She continued:

“During his Final Major Project, Dylan demonstrated real ambition. He independently secured access to the RNLI and managed the logistics of the project with exceptional organisation and professionalism. The final piece showcased a breadth of practical and creative skill and stood confidently alongside work from university‑level nominees.”

Cleo added that Dylan’s work is a strong example of the exceptional talent regularly seen in Truro College’s 16–19 learners:

“Opportunities like this nomination allow us to celebrate that talent and show our students what is possible. It was fantastic to celebrate this RTS nomination with Dylan and hear about the projects he is continuing to work on as he progresses to university.”

A Celebration of Emerging Talent

The accomplishments of Coco and Dylan highlight their dedication, creativity and the high standard of teaching and opportunities available within the college’s Media department.

We are immensely proud of both alumni and congratulate them on their remarkable achievements at the RTS Devon & Cornwall Student Awards.
