“We’re the only two people at college who do it.”
Subjects studied:
A Level Spanish & French
Ben and Austin are the only students currently studying both French and Spanish together at Truro and Penwith College, a “unique thing” they say only the two of them really understand.
With their results secured, Ben, who achieved three A*s, is off to Oxford University, while Austin is heading to Durham, both to continue French and Spanish.
For both, it’s the culture as much as the language that’s hooked them: “a massive mixture of culture, history and language, you get a bit of everything,” and one of the most sociable subjects on offer. “Some of my best friends now I met in French and Spanish,” pushing and supporting each other through every class.
They’re just as warm about their teachers, who arranged extra classes around their Oxbridge and Durham applications without being asked twice. “I’ve never had a problem that I haven’t just gone to a teacher with, and they’ve sorted it out in ten minutes,” another story shaped by more than 30 years of Truro and Penwith College helping students find their place.
