When Ryan, Bethany, Neave, Jessica, Savanna and Scarlett arrived at Truro and Penwith College, they came from different schools, different backgrounds and different experiences.

What brought them together was a shared interest in Law.

What kept them together was the community they found along the way.

“It’s a very close-knit group and we’re all very willing to support each other where people need support,” explained one student. “It’s been really great.”

That sense of support extends beyond friendships. Students describe an environment where lecturers encourage them to challenge themselves, explore new ideas and develop confidence in their abilities.

“Whatever department you’re in, there’s always someone who is willing to give you the support you need to really push yourself.”

For many students, studying Law has been far more engaging and exciting than they expected.

“When people think of law, they often think of paperwork and legislation,” Bethany said. “But it’s so much more interesting than that.”

Students enjoy exploring real-life cases, debating complex issues and understanding how legislation shapes society. They also value the way Law connects with their other subjects, helping them develop wider perspectives and critical thinking skills.

“I love Law because it interacts with my other subjects so well,” explained one student. “It’s much broader and more interesting than people expect.”

The enthusiasm and passion of their lecturers has also played a key role in their experience.

“When I met my first year Law teacher, she had so much energy that I knew straight away that Law was what I wanted to study.”

The strength of the group’s friendships became even more apparent when they represented the College in the Bar Mock Trial Competition, progressing all the way to the national finals in London.

The competition challenged students to work together under pressure, developing legal arguments, preparing cases and presenting their ideas as a team.

“Everyone in our class gets along,” Jessica explained. “We debate everything and talk about all the cases. The community is really strong.”

Their hard work paid off with the best result Truro and Penwith College has ever achieved in the competition.

“It felt incredible when they read out the scores,” recalled Scarlett. “We were all so happy and proud of each other because it was such a team effort from regionals through to nationals.”

The experience brought the group even closer together, creating memories and friendships that will stay with them long after College.

“We’ve become such a tight group of friends and we had an amazing time in London,” one student said. “It was intense, but it was so worth it.”

Together, these students demonstrate what can happen when shared ambition meets a supportive community. Through friendship, teamwork and a passion for learning, they achieved something remarkable, proving that success is even more rewarding when you achieve it together.
