“When I first started, I was nervous, but this course taught me to throw myself into everything.”
Subjects studied:
Performing Arts
What’s next:
Progressing to drama schools, specialist performing arts training and university study.
For students studying Performing Arts at Truro and Penwith College, every rehearsal, performance and production has been a step towards an exciting future.
Whether their next destination is university, drama school or specialist training, each student shares a common experience: the confidence they have gained through being part of a supportive and creative community.
“When I first started, I was a bit nervous,” Lexie explained. “I’m not very good at putting myself out there, but it’s really taught me to throw myself into everything.”
That personal growth is something students say has been just as important as the practical skills they have developed throughout the course.
Through full-scale productions and live performances, students gain first-hand experience of what it takes to work in the industry while developing teamwork, resilience and confidence along the way.
“Having the opportunity to perform full-scale shows has been really important because you learn lots of things that you need to know when you go into the industry.”
Students describe the course as an environment where everyone is encouraged to support one another, take creative risks and develop their individual strengths.
The support of lecturers has also played a significant role in helping students achieve their goals.
“Kit is brilliant,” Leland said. “If anyone needs support, whether that’s coursework, emotional support or anything else, she’s always there. Her door is always open.”
That encouragement has helped students secure offers from a range of highly respected institutions, including specialist drama schools, musical theatre programmes and university acting courses.
Among the destinations students are progressing to are the University of Gloucestershire, Performers College, Fourth Monkey in London, PPA in Guildford and the University of Plymouth.
For many, these offers represent years of dedication and hard work, but they also reflect the confidence they have gained during their time at College.
“Doing this course has prepared me so much for the next step in my acting training,” explained Harry.
Their advice for anyone considering Performing Arts is simple: embrace every opportunity and trust yourself.
“Just go for it,” Lucie said.
Students also highlight the strength of the training and the connections available through the course.
“The support networks and links with drama schools are amazing. You can’t beat it.”
Together, these students show that Performing Arts is about much more than performing on stage. It is about finding your confidence, discovering your voice and becoming part of a creative community that encourages you to aim high and pursue your ambitions.
As they prepare for their next chapter, they leave College with new skills, lasting friendships and the confidence to step into the spotlight.
