Music Theatre Technician

Salary: £20,677 per annum

Overview

Are you passionate about theatre, live performance and technical production? We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Theatre Technician to join our Performing Arts team, supporting a busy programme of teaching, rehearsals, productions and events across our theatre facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic educational environment, providing technical support across lighting, sound, staging and AV systems while helping students develop their skills in live performance production.

About the Role

You will prepare and operate theatre spaces for classes, rehearsals, performances and events, supporting all stages of production from get-in to get-out. The role involves:

  • Rigging, programming and operating theatrical lighting systems
  • Setting up and operating sound, radio microphones, projection and AV equipment
  • Supporting staging, scenery, drapes and technical installations
  • Maintaining equipment and carrying out first-line fault finding
  • Managing technical stores, inventories and documentation
  • Supporting staff and students in the safe use of equipment
  • Assisting with health and safety procedures and risk assessments
  • Working occasional evenings and weekends during production periods

About You

We are looking for someone with practical experience in theatre, live events or a similar technical environment. You will have:

  • Experience of theatrical lighting and/or live sound
  • Good organisational, communication and IT skills
  • An understanding of production processes and safe working practices
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • A flexible approach and willingness to support a varied programme of activities
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between sites when required

Experience with lighting control systems such as Avolites or ChamSys, digital audio consoles, QLab, projection systems or technical theatre qualifications would be advantageous.
