“College has given me the confidence to be myself and follow my passion for performing.”
For Natty, performing has always been a passion.
Whether she is on stage or representing others as an ambassador for the Down’s Syndrome Association, she is passionate about celebrating inclusion, promoting opportunity and encouraging people to believe in their potential.
At Truro and Penwith College, she has found a community where she feels supported to develop both personally and creatively.
One of the biggest changes Natty has noticed since joining College is the independence she has gained.
“I enjoy making my own choices, deciding what to eat, where to spend my time and being with my friends.”
Meeting new people and building friendships has helped Natty become more confident while allowing her to enjoy everything College life has to offer.
The variety of the Progression Pathways course has also given her opportunities to discover new experiences throughout the year.
She particularly enjoys taking part in celebrations of different festivals and events, but it is Dance and Performing Arts where she truly shines.
“I love performing on stage. Those lessons bring me so much joy and allow me to express myself creatively.”
Natty says her lecturers have encouraged her every step of the way.
“My teachers are thoughtful, funny, supportive and talented. They encourage me to achieve my best and have helped me develop my confidence and performance skills.”
The confidence she has gained at College has helped prepare her for an exciting next step.
Natty has secured a place at the Orpheus Centre in London, a specialist college that supports young disabled adults to build independent and fulfilling lives through the performing and creative arts.
She is looking forward to working with industry professionals, developing her performance skills and continuing to pursue the career she loves.
For Natty, College has been a place where she has discovered greater independence, built lasting friendships and found the confidence to step onto the stage and into an exciting future.
